GreeningUSA presented the Onondaga Citizens League with its 2010 Community Advocacy Award for Community Awareness, recognizing OCL’s study, “What Does It Mean to be Green?”  The goal of the study was to determine what a truly sustainable community looks like, and what implications this has for Onondaga County.  The report calls on the community to marshal the combined efforts of municipalities, citizens, schools, businesses and other institutions to make an impact and serve as an example to others.  The study report summarizes current local efforts, includes the results of OCL surveys of residents, elected officials and high school students, and includes findings and recommendations in six main areas:  Land Use, Transportation, Waste Management, Energy, Green Buildings, and Water Infrastructure.
