While there was a vocal public debate  in Syracuse in 1927 about the possibility of an elevated railroad line creating a hostile barrier dividing parts of the city, the decision 30 years later to build an elevated highway between downtown and the city’s major educational and medical institutions lacked the same level of public deliberation....[more]


Within the next few years, the New York State Department of Transportation, and the local community, will be faced with decisions concerning replacement of the deteriorated elevated portions of Interstate 81 - decisions that will have lasting impact on the entire community, not just those who use the freeway.  How can we ensure that all the relevant factors are considered in the decision-making?   Follow the current OCL study.
