OCL ENTERS THE BLOGOSPHERE!
Blog from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A blog, (an abridgment of the term web log) is a web site … with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog ...
Check out the first posting, EXTREME MAKEOVER: HIGHWAY EDITION, on OCL's new blog, an online discussion of issues, news stories, case studies, reports, and other items of interest relating to OCL's 2008 study, RETHINKING I-81. We will add new entries regularly, and encourage your comments, which will be posted after each entry. As the Study Committee explores the I-81 question, we hope that you will get involved by following the process, keeping an open mind, and adding your opinions to the mix.
2008 ANNUAL MEETING CELEBRATES 30 YEARS
At OCL’s June 11 Annual Meeting, former board president Fred Fiske performed a special 30th anniversary edition of his OCL Anthem, complete with sing-along by the 90 or so members and friends in attendance.

Executive Committee members Steve Kearney and Linda Henley presented the 2008 Levi L. Smith Civic Education Award to Christine Capella-Peters, Regional Representative for the NYS Historic Preservation Office, and George W. Curry, Distinguished Teaching Professor at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry of SUNY, for their contributions to the teaching and promotion of historic preservation.
County Executive Joanie Mahoney presented the keynote address, praising OCL for its prescience in tackling community issues such as government modernization, downtown revitalization and streamlined economic development, which are priority items in her administration’s Opportunity Agenda.
OCL ON WCNY'S "CENTRAL ISSUES"
OCL Health Inequalities Study Committee members appeared on WCNY’s Central Issues on March 21, 2008 to discuss the recently released report, “How Inequality Makes Us Sick: The Growing Disparities in Health and Health Care.” View the taped broadcast at http://onondagacitizensleague.org/news/index.html.
2nd ANNUAL DOWNTOWN LIVING TOUR
The 2nd annual Downtown Living Tour, this year organized by the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, was again a huge success, bringing over 1,500 people downtown to tour a selection of unique apartments, lofts and condos. An outcome of OCL's 2006 study, "
Leveraging Better Outcomes for Downtown," the Downtown Living Tour initiated last year by OCL is an excellent example of how OCL studies can have a lasting, positive impact in partnership with other community organizations.
